opperbelt Province, Zambia — October 2024
East Consult Limited has commenced work on the rehabilitation of 56km of roads, including the D243/244 and T3 Copperbelt Energy Substation to Chiwala stretch. Valued at USD 867,971.50 and funded by the Road Development Agency (RDA), the project is scheduled to run until April 2027.

Why This Road is Important

The Copperbelt is the industrial heart of Zambia, home to mining operations, energy facilities, and growing residential areas. The stretch between the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) Substation and Chiwala is critical for transporting power equipment, mining inputs, and goods. Yet, frequent deterioration of road surfaces has hampered efficiency and raised transport costs.

Project Scope

  • Rehabilitation of 56km of road using stabilised gravel and asphalt base.
  • Design review to ensure terrain challenges such as expansive soils and slopes are addressed.
  • Drainage and culvert improvements to handle industrial traffic and seasonal rains.
  • Construction supervision with stringent quality assurance.

Anticipated Impact

This project will reduce vehicle operating costs, improve logistics for industries, and enhance road safety. It will also benefit residential communities along the road corridor by reducing travel disruptions.

Eng. Patrick Tembo, who is leading the project, highlighted East Consult’s commitment to delivering durable infrastructure that directly supports Zambia’s economic growth.
