Sinazongwe District, Southern Province — August 2025
East Consult has commenced consultancy for the rehabilitation and supervision of 10.5 km of urban roads in Sinazongwe District. The project, financed by KfW through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, is scheduled for completion in May 2025 with a budget of USD 292,148.36.

Why Sinazongwe Needs Better Roads

Situated along the shores of Lake Kariba, Sinazongwe plays an important role in fishing, tourism, and agriculture. However, seasonal floods have repeatedly damaged its road network, isolating communities, cutting off schools and clinics, and disrupting trade. Heavy rains often wash away culverts and drains, leaving residents stranded.

Improved urban roads are therefore more than an infrastructure project—they are a lifeline that will connect communities, safeguard livelihoods, and enhance resilience to climate change.

Scope of Work

  • Rehabilitation of 10.5 km of township roads.
  • Drainage upgrades, including culverts and surface water management.
  • Quality control and supervision to ensure durable, weather-resistant road standards.
  • Community consultation to ensure minimal disruption during construction.

Impact

The upgraded roads will restore reliable year-round connectivity, enhance local trade, and improve access to schools, hospitals, and markets. They will also bolster the tourism potential of Sinazongwe, allowing more visitors to reach Lake Kariba’s attractions.
